003 | "The Parish Church is situated at the North West corner of Nelson Street, facing the Sea, and is a neat but plain building originally an oblong in plan, but by the addition of aisles to its eastern extremity, in 1821 it has been made to assume a Cruciform appearance. A Steeple of a quadrilateral form. crowned with embrasures, and small turrets at the angles. from which rises an octagonal Spire, surmounted by a weather Cock, graces the west gable, which is, moreover, the principal facade of the building. Within, the Church presents a light airy and comfortable look, and is capable of accommodating about 1300 Sitters The Parish Churches and burying grounds of Ayrshire. The Church was built in 1812. |
