"Thomaston Castle built by a nephew of Robert the Bruce,
in the year 1335 has been exceedingly strong, and of very considerable
extent. It was inhabited fifty years ago, and is now the property of
the Earl of Cassillis" Statistical Account (1842)

"Thomaston Castle seems to have consisted principally of a strong
tower, and to have had a moat around it. There are remains of an extensive
orchard in the vicinity" Pattersons History of Ayrshire (published 1847)
