011 | The only vestige of this castle now remaining is Circular Turret and a small portion of a side wall. It is conjectured that there were similar Turrets at each Corner of the Castle when entire, the present occupier an intelligent man states that during his recollection the Ruin is in the Same state, it is probable that the portion now remaining formed part of the N E [North-East] end of the castle. "In the estate of Monfode, or Montfode, as it is now written,
"there stands an old baronial Castle much injured by time
" and the hand of man. The estate of Monfode continued
"for many ages. The property of a family of the same name
"but it passed from them about a century and a half
" ago, and as vestige now remaining to tell that they once existed
"It at present belongs to Mr Carrick Moore, of Corsewall,
" brother of the lamented General Sir John Moore, who
