Immediately on the North Side of this house is a small "Knoll on which there is the appearance of it having been built upon, and is supposed to have been the original 'Calfhill". It was in the possession of the Monks of Melrose who used to Keep calves and (young) Cattle here from which it was called "Calfhill" - ( It is a Modern erection) |
