008.05 | A Small Stragling Village, about half a mile South of Melrose. And on the road leading from thence to Bowdon etc there are some of the houses apparently very old, but in good repair. And are every one Small fues, It extends from the Reservoir (At the north end,) as far west as there are houses - or to "Dewdrop Cottage" - The local name of this is Dingleton and the Revd [Reverend] William Murray and Allan Freer Esq say that Daniel Town is a Corruption of Dingleton part of these houses are in a valley hence the name; Dingle, a valley.
