021.05 | [Situation] On the West of Jed Water. So Called from dedication to the Virgin, or, as some suppose, from a Convent of females having at one period stood in them. They occupy a warm, sheltered Situation, and are remarkable for the depth and fertility of their Soil. There are Several very Ancient pear trees to be found here, which are a Curiosity in many respects. They are believed to be Caeval with the abbey, and their appearance bespeaks a great antiquity. |
