| Site of CONFLICT between the Macdonalds and Mackenzies about A.D. 1490 [Blar na Pairce] | Blair-Ne-Pairk | Gordon's History of the Earldom of Sutherland Published 1813 from the original Manuscript down to 1651 | 087 | The following is taken from Gordon's History of the Earldom of Sutherland published 1813 from the original Manuscript down to 1651. After the Lord of the Isles had resigned the earldom of Rosse into the Kings hand A.D.1476 the province was continuallie vexed and molested with incursions by the ilanders. Gillespick (cousin to Macdonald) gathering a company of men, invaded the height of that countrey with great hostilitie; which the inhabitants perceaveing (and speciiallie the familie of Clancheinzie) they assembled speedelie together and mett the ilanders besyd the river Connan, wher ther ensued a sharp and cruell conflict. Gillespick Macdonald was overthrown, and most pairt of his men slain or drowned in the river Connan, about two mylls from Braile; and this was called Blair-Ne-Pairk. It is reported, that immediately before the skirmish, the Clandonald did burn and spoile a Chappell lying hard upon the river of Connan, not far from the place wher they fought, which made them spied as they did." This battle is supposed to have been fought in or about the year 1490. |
