018 | A prominent hill on the south side of the Kyle of Sutherland about half a mile west of Culrain Lodge and four miles from Bonar Bridge. In the Imperial Gazetteer of Scotland this place is called the "Rock of Lamentation", and is the place where the last battle of the Marquis of Montrose was fought on 27th April 1650. "when he fled into Assynt, where he was captured". In the district it is always Known now as Lamentation Hill. About four years ago it was all planted with fir. |
