| TUMULUS (Site of) [Ardvanie] | Tumulus | Rev [Reverend] Mr Joass | 027 | During the formation of the Railway near Ardvanie the line passed through a group of tumuli one of these tumuli apparently the same size as the others was in the line of works & had to be cleared away it was found to be surrounded by a narrow ditch 3 ft deep filled in with black earth, In this ditch were found the fragments of an Urn, In the centre of the tumulus lay a Cist 4 feet long 3 feet broad and 15 inches deep, It contained black mould & sand with bits of burnt bone at the bottom, also the point of a Bronze blade and a bead of blue glass bearing three volutes inwrought in yellow enamel, These are now in the Antiquities Museum in Edinburgh, Such beads are Known as Clachan - Nathaireach by the Highlanders and are used as charms for the care of sick cattle.
