027 | At the head of the Patent Slip near the western end of Newtown in Stornoway The works for supplying the town of Stornoway with Gas. the erection of them was commenced about two years ago and finished at the beginning of this (1849) at the expense of what is now termed Stornoway Gas Company. They are substantial stone buildings enclosed by a wall inside of which is also a dwelling house for the manager. There was no Gas in the town previous to the opening of them |
