Captain Bailey
Ordnance Survey office
Saint Vincent Street
Glasgow

Sir,
I observe my home is marked
on the Ordnance as "Ellen Bank".
It is and has always been called Elm-
bank. It is situated on the shore
on the north side of Eldon Street
and south side of Clyde street.
I hope you will get this great
mistake corrected.

I am,
Sir,
Yours most
Aird McIlwraith
Greenock
17 Aug 1859

Pencil note 1: NL Page 10 of Renfrewshire
Pencil note 2: Cannot find this Street on plans
Pencil note 3: There is E.C, Street &
W. Clyde Street on plans,
but not Eldon St near
there nor Ellen Bank
in the locality of these
Streets.

Ordnance Survey - Renfrew county

Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Renfrew, which is in the west of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
