Crawfurd's Hist. [History]: Renfrewshire. 1710.
[Left margin][--]10]. The principal Rivers are three - viz. White & Black
Cart, and the river of Grief. [note: out of Ph (Parish)]
White Cart hath its source between Eagelsham
in this shire, and Evandale & Kilbride in Clydesdale,
upon the bank of which (some few miles from its
Source) Stands first, the Castle of Punnoon, the
principal messuage of the Barony of Eagelsham
an ancient possession of the Montgommeries.

This Parish is situated in the South-east corner of the
County, and contains 15.436 English acres. It continues
still to belong, nearly all, to the Earl of Eglinton.
The lands of Achinhood (containing the farms of
Netherton, Holehall, Holemuir and Manlouther
which, in Crawfurd's time, belonged to a Cadet of the
noble family of Eglinton, have since, in [...] been
reunited to the other property of its Chief. There are
only four other heritors in the Parish, and their properties
are comparatively Small, and who hold them as vassals
in feu of the Earl. Namely,
1. Millhall; John Mather, whose father acquired
this small, but pleasant spot, by marrying Mary, the
only surviving child of Robert Dunlop of Millhall, whose
ancestor was a younger son of Dunlop of that ilk.
The extent is about 10 acres of fertile land, on which there
is a neat small mansion, and also a mill, pleasantly
Situated on the water of White Cart, about a mile
S.E. [South east] of the village of Eagleshame.
