016.03 | The stone which occupies the Site marked an trace is now a gate pillar on the Side of Parish road about 14½ Chains from site in a S.E [South East] direction there is not anything particular about the Stone and if ever carved is now defaced but all who Know the object are of opinion that it is a Danish Stone. "The principal remnant of Antiquity in the parish, is a Danish
Stone with curious carved works upon it, which, it is said, once stood
upon the lands of Hawkhead, but is now a humble bridge stone
over a small rivulet betwixt these lands and Arthurlie."
