"The Parishes of Houston and Killallan were united in 1760. The former may be supposed to be a corruption of Hew's toon. The latter is a corruption of Killy i.e. Cilla Fillani, the name of a tutelary Saint of the parish." It is bounded on the north and northeast by Erskine, the east and south by Killallen and on the west by Kilmalcolm. Its extreme length, from east to west is about 5 Miles, breadth from north to south about 3. The Antiquities of the parish are interesting, and will be described in the following pages of this book. There are no detached portions of any other parish in this parish or of this in any other. John C. Giles O.S. [Ordnance Surveyor] |

Ordnance Survey - Renfrew county
Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Renfrew, which is in the west of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
