County of Renfrew Parish of Houston

Note: After 'the oldest church in the parish' the writer originally had 'of an almost octagonal shape with a square indistinctly tracable in the inside', but this has been crossed out in red, presumably by J.C.G.

Note: "The Kirk of Killallan is still standing (in 1791)
and the roof entire. The heritors were empowered,
by the decreet of annexation, to sell the Manse, which
was a bad house, and the glebe, to enable them to
build a church at Houstown, sufficient to
accomodate the inhabitants of both parishes."
Old Statistical Acct. [Account]

The above has reference only to "St Fillan's Church" which see. J.C.G.

This is evidently a camp & from its construction I shd. [should] suppose it Danish. The rampart is perfect - steep on the S. [South] and eastern sides. It is a perfect circle. Entrance on the north side. The tradition in the county is that the Romans had a church here. J.C.G.
