098 | [continued from previous page] foundations for this house a stone statue was found apparently of a female but the head was broken off. Some people are of opinion that this is a statue of St. Catherine which must have stood in a niche of the Chapel, this statue was found about the South end of the building already referred to, and there were great quantities of human bones dug up at various times to the east of the above place nearly as far east as the north end of Thimble Row. It is considered by many intelligent persons in the locality that the site of the Chapel is the spot where the statue was dug up, although this differs somewhat from the site marKed on the old plans of the City dated respectively 1774 & 1792 " The Chapel of St. Katherine, according to the description in the Foundation Charter, it was situated at the west end of Perth at the Clay-pots. It was founded June 19, 1523 by Sir John Lyrie who for many years was Provost of the Collegiate Church of Methven.
