| MAUSOLEUM | [Continued] Little is known regarding the ancient ecclesiastical state of these parishes. But it would appear that Monzievaird and Strowan were separate and distinct parishes, as it is stated in the former Statistical Account that the Earl of Strathern, in the beginning of the thirteenth cenury, made a grant of the Church of St.Servanus,or Serf of Moivard to the monastery of Inchaffrey. Whereas, on the other hand, Keith, in "his history of the Church and State in Scotland"(13.4.App. [Appendix] p.191,) includes Strowan in the list of the parsonages or parochial churches in Scotland remaining unappropriated to bishops or religious houses at the time of the Reformation. The exact period at which Monzievaird and Strowan were united, is involved in obscurity, but it is evident, from the reports of the Commissioners of Teinds from 1661 to1673, that the union had place previous to the year 1662. New Statistical Account When speaking of the Site of Monzievaird Church the dedicatory name is never mentioned and it is little known in the locality but the name of the ancient parish and Church are invariably coupled together, therefore I have written them so on the plans in order that they may not be lost sight of.
