131 | The ruins of a house situated on the South side of the road leading from Stirling to Thornhill, and about half a mile from the latter place, It is said to have been a Roman Catholic Manse At the opposite side of the stream below, is a Well, Called by the country people the 'holy well'; It is also stated that there had been a place of worship, and grave yard, near this place It is on the Earl of Moray's property. I have made enquiries respecting this Chapel & graveyard, of the best authorities & can obtain no information, respecting their Site, I also find that this well is not generally known as the Holy Well, therefore it would not do to write that name, the ruins are merely old Cot houses. |

is correct, as it is supposed to take the name from the Well at
the place; i.e. Well-town.
