11th. Decr. [December] 1860
In making further enquiry and research
for the objects noted in this page, very few
additional facts could be elicited, but it
may be remarked that extensive remains
of buildings have been dug up from time to
time in the vicinity of the present Church
particularly its north side and its S E [South East]
side. When the proprietor of Mornington
was preparing the ground for building
his house there were found remains of
foundations, and a stone which is still
to be seen in a wall at the entrance to the
house having some rudely sculptured
figures, There were also considerable quan
-tities of human bones dug up about the
same place. - The above foundations
are considered by the most intelligent in
this locality to be the remains of the ancient
Ecclesiastical establishment, including the nun-
nery of St. Bridget. The Culdees monastery
and College or Seminaries and subsequently
The Priory of Canons Regular of St Augustine
There is also little doubt that the ancient
Church stood about the same or on
the site of the parish Ch [Church] which was removed i
n 1802. and was situated close to the
Round Tower. which served as Church
belfry from the earliest age of the Christian
establishment here. From all the written
accounts it appears that the Church was as
early as its foundation or very soon after
a Cathedral and was dedicated to St.
Bridget. and when the See was transfered

Ordnance Survey - Perth county

Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Perth, which is in central Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
