| BLAIRGOWRIE [parish] (Continued) | [continued from page 1] parish separated from the main division, by the intervening branches of the parishes adjoining The largest of these lies to the North West of the principal division, from which it is separated by branches of the parishes of Kinloch and Bendochy. It comprehends part of the district called the Forest of Cluny, & a considerable tract on both sides of the river Ardle. The other detached portion of the parish lies to the North-East of the main division, from which it is separated by the parish of Rattray, and is supposed to contain about 2 square miles. It is known by the general name of the Creuchies. The parish lies on the north side of the magnificent valley of Strathmore, partly within it, and partly along the series of gentle elevations which form its northern boundary, rising in height, as they recede from the plain, till they swell out into the lofty summits of the Grampian Mountains. Longitudinally, the parish extends nearly North & South & is naturally divided into two districts, nearly equal in extent the Highland and the Lowland: the former being the hilly division, which lies to the northward of the great strath, the latter the portion lying within its boundary. The only market town in the parish is the town of Blairgowrie, which occupies a pleasant situation on the west bank of the river Ericht. A branch of the Scottish North Eastern Railway, skirts the south eastern extremity of the Parish, and terminates at the town." New Stat: ]Statistical] Account There are 2 detached portions of this Parish numbered respectively 1 & 2 there is not any portion of another Parish contained within the boundary of this Parish. |

Ordnance Survey - Perth county
Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Perth, which is in central Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
