[North East] from Taquair Church] In the field No 255 on the farm of Damhead formerly stood the place of Shillinglaw which tradition gives as a former residence of some of the cadets of the Stewarts of Traquair, and from which in the early part of the 17th Century, that family derived one of its titles. - In the public Archives there is a charter dated 1614-17 in favour of "Domino Roberto Stuart de Shillinglaw Militi" of the lands of Hope Cailzie &c. - |
