012 ; 013 ; 015 ; 016 ; 019 ; 020 | [Situation] Runs through Centre of Peebles-shire This is one of the Principal rivers of Scotland - It rises from a spring called "Tweeds Well" near the base of Annanhead Hill close to the Boundary of Dumfries-shire a little above the farm house of Tweedshaws - The height of its Source is about 1500 feet above the level of the Sea and from the Same spot the Rivers Annan and Clyde have also their Source. The course of the Tweed is north-easterly - It passes right through the County of Peebles, through portions of Selkirkshire, the County of Roxburgh, and falls into the Sea at Berwick about one hundred miles from from it's Source. It receives the waters of the Lyne, the Manor, the Teviot, the Gala and Several Streams of lesser importance & passes through Several Important towns - The fisheries on this river are regulated by a Commission - It is navigable for vessels of Small draught up to about Coldstream - |
