Parish of West Linton -- Sheet 8 No 5 -- Trace 6

[Note] -- The objects called Rings in Peebleshire are apparently
British hill forts. See Chalmer's Caledonia vol. [volume] 2 page 908
Although the country people speak of them as being constructed
for the security of cattle in the feudal times or during the border
excursions. It is probable they may have been used for the
latter purpose in times long after their construction, But
the proper designation to be written on plan is Fort as has
been done hitherto Rings being only a provincial designation
peculiar to Peebleshire.

Ordnance Survey - Peebles county

Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Peebles, which is in the south of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
