106 | A green mound said to be the site of an ancient building, generally supposed to have been an establishment of monks, It is situate immediately west of the Grave Yard, and near the centre of "Monkhouse Green", "Near it (the Grave Yard) are the remains of a building which originally occupied a considerable space of ground, and is generally supposed to have been an establishment of monks, hence called Monk's House". Est. [Established] from New Statistical Account "Near Breckness-head, at the southwest extremity of the parish stands a venerable building built 1633, as an episcopal residence, by the last bishop of Orkney. Between this and the town are the ruins of the old parish Church surrounded with the cemetery, and the remains of an old monastery;" Est.
