125 | An island in the parish of South Ronaldshay situated in the Pentland Firth about 2 miles west from Barth Head South Ronaldshay, and about 4 miles S.E. from Cantick Head Lighthouse, Walls, It lies in a N. NE. and S. SW. direction is about a mile and a half in length by about half a mile in breadth, In consequence of the rapidity with which the Currents of the Pentland Firth sweep past it, it is surrounded by a number of eddies making any approach to it, except during fine with, and about the turn of the tide, both difficult and dangerous, It Contains a Considerable extent of good arable ground & the remainder, except where the rocks are washed bare by the sea, yeilds good pasture |
