124 | Applies to the site of a Castle which is supposed to have been built early in the fourteenth century and owned by the Earl of Weems. Tradition says: that when the building was completed the Earl being ['was' crossed out] unable to pay ['meet' crossed out] the Contractor and men employed left the place for a time until his affairs got settled, when the men irritated for the loss of their money set fire to the Castle: the Earl's wife and family perishing in the flames. This place is situated on the seashore of Sandwick ['Bay' crossed out] and about a quarter of a mile southwest of Shorehouses, on the property of James Cromarty Esquire South parish. |
