| QUARRY [nr Breck] | Quarry (ancient) | Dr. [Doctor] Clouston | 094 | Applies to an ancient quarry situated a short distance east from the above enclosure. Dr. [Doctor] Clouston the writer of the account of this quarry in the Statistical account of Scotland supposes the "Stones of Stennis" to have been brought from this place. The following is an Extract. "As I know of no other quarry from which they could be procured, and no other purpose for which people could detach such blocks as these from 13 to 18 feet long. The nearest circle of the Standing Stones is about 6 miles from this spot, but though they might be considered geographically in the parish they are ecclesiastically within the bounds of Stennis" |
