072; 073 | This is the most northerly Island of the north isles of Orkney and lies 2 1/2 miles north of Taftness in Sanday and 15 miles east-north-east of the nearest part of Papa Westray. Its length from north to south is 3 1/2 miles its mean breadth a little upwards of 1 mile and its superficial extent is about 4 square miles. There is communication with Sanday once a week (weather permitting) by means of a small ferry boat which carried the mails but as the Sound which divides the Island from Sanday is very dangerous in nacigation the communication is very uncertain especially in winter.
