112 | Applies to a green mound situated on the shore of the Bay of Quoys in Whaness. This is evidently the mound which Sir Walter Scott mentions in the "Pirate" as the cairn where he landed on his way to the Dwarfie Stane. The mound is composed of stones & earth. In 1812 the men employed removing stones from this mound for the purpose of building the adjacent house (Greenhill) found human bones, on which they ceased to excavate. There are however no stones to be seen now. |
