001.16 | The Mansion House of the Robroyston Estate occupied by William Hannah. The property of A. G. Lamont Esqr- This house is evidently old. but the date is not known by the proprietor. There is a square stone built into the front wall, looking towards the south, which is supposed to be the date: it is so defaced {apparently by time} that it is impossible to decipher it. Ther eis however, the date 1623 on the Sun Dial near the front door. An addition was put to the west end of the house about 8 years ago. In the old part, the walls are from 4 to 5 feet thich. There is an antique looking little room on the upper story looking towards the offices, which a tradition says is the place where Wallace was taken. The house does not appear to be old enough for that. Nor is the tradition relied upon by any authority on the subject. |
