010.03 | This burn rises from high grounds about 1/4/ mile from the farm of Clingart, in Cathkin Parish. It enters this parish about 20 xchains west of the farm of Westmuir, & forms the Parish Boundary until it enters the birn called "Polmadie," Thereis a tradition that the horse of Queen Mary in her flight from the Battle of Langside, lost a shoe, & stuck in the mud, or mire, at the place where a ford is shewn (010.03 -1). A horse shoe, as stated by Mr Allen, Factor, was found here twelve years ago, about 8 feet below the surface. It has not been preserved but is commonly believed to have been the shoe lost by Queen Mary's horse. |
