"The parish of Old Monkland is a remarkably fine, extensive, rather flat and low lying district, extending along the eastern bank of the River Clyde for many miles, immediately after leaving the highly ornamental and picturesque scenery of Bothwell and Hamilton, and before it reaches the great and commercial emporium of the west, the City of Glasgow."
Old Monkland is bounded on the north by the parishes of New Monkland and Cadder; on the East by part of the parish of New Monkland and Bothwell on the south.
