031 | The portion of the River Clyde which forms the Western boundary of Lesmahagow Ph [Parish] extends from the junction of Douglas Water to a farmsteading named Threepwood, a distance on nine miles, and proba [probably ?] by the most picturesque part of its long course. In this distance it falls over the famous Linns of Bonn [Bonnington] Corra & Stonebyres, works the machinery of the large cotton mills of New Lanark, and washes the villages of Kirkfieldbank Hazelbank & Crossford. From Bonniton to Corra Linn it is enclosed within cliffs of old red sandstone beyond this its banks are covered with large woods & rich orchards It is crossed by a large bridge at Crossford & another at Kirkfieldbank and a small iron bridge connects the Lanark side of the river with an island in the centre of Bonniton fall. |
