043.06 | This Camp is situated at the South side of Shiel Burn and South Base of Woodend Hill, its general outline is a semicircle and appears to have had a ditch and strong rampart on the East and West, which are still in a good state of preservation there is no trace of a ditch on the South side, and here the rampart is slighter than on the East and West side; there is also an appearance of a Sligt rampart on the North side which is on the top of a precipitous slope (See Section a, b, c.) This Camp would form a good place of defence in hand to hand encounter, but, would be at the mercy of an enemy with arrows or firearms from the Slope of Woodend Hill. |

Ordnance Survey - Lanark county
Ordnance Survey was established in the 18th century to create maps, surveys and associated records for the entirety of Great Britain. These records are arranged by county. This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Lanark, which is in the west of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
