021; 027; 028 | The parish of Dolphinton is in the County of Lanark, its eastern and southern Boundary joins the County of Peebles, and, for the greater part, the centre of Garvald Burn and the Forth Water form the Ph. [Parish] and County Boundary. The parish consists of nearly 3582 Statute acres and contains no other village but that of Dolphinton in which are situated the Parish Church, Manse and School. An Episcopal chapel is situated at Bridge-end, in the eastern extremity of the Parish, and in the North a post Office is kept in the farmsteading called Roberton "A Dolphin fish is represented in the arms of the principal heritor; but the name of Dolphinstown, as it was anciently spelled, "seems with more probability to be derived from that of one of the early proprietors of the Manor.
