019.15 | The site of one those small erections called crosses at which prior to the Reformation travellers implored the protection of some favourite Saint on their journey it was supposed to have had somewhat the same appearance as those market crosses seen in some ancient towns. but no information can be obtained respecting it. The ruins of a cothouse stands on its site which bore the name of Jamescross. its walls are almost level with the ground. Similar buildings to that above described are frequently met with in Roman Catholic countries such as Spain etc. erected alongside the Highway for he use of travellers. |
