Continued entries/extra info

The original name "Kilncadzow" has been deleted and replaced with "Kilcadzow" The original name is described as obsolete. And there is a parenthetical reference

"(See DR. 87/826/45 bound in ONB)"

The description for the village is continued in the preceding sheet OS1/21/11/117.

Transcriber's notes

The authorities for the various spellings are complex and difficult to enter in the template.

The original name of Kilncadzow was ascribed to Messrs McLean, Stewart Wylie and Rankin and also to the farm charter and the Charter of 1762

Kilcagdow - to the Charter dated 1423
Kilcairdzie - to the Charters dated 1492 and 1583
Kincadzow - to the Charter dated 1644
Kilcadzow - to the Statistical Account of Lanarkshire and the 2 County Maps

Locally the village name is pronounced KILCAIGIE and one can see that derivation from a couple of the spellings (with a bit of imagination!)

It is unclear why the spelling of the name of such an insignificant little hamlet attracted so much attention but there is a bit of correspondence in the sheets towards the end of the Carluke Parish stuff.

This entry has been created to enable searching for Ordnance Survey records for the county of Lanark, which is in the west of Scotland. The boundaries of the county were altered by the Boundary Commissioners in 1891.
