033 | [Situation] 1 mile E.S.E [East South East] of Kirkgunzeon village" The site of a large cairn or tumulus on the farm of Glaisters, nothing of it now remains but the track or circle of ground on which it stood, it was removed about 50 years ago, for the purpose of building fences, one fence was erected out of its Stones, which extended one mile in length, and in the bottom of the Cairn a number of urns were found filled with Ashes. Adjacent to this is another circle which probably is the object mentioned in the Stat. Acct. [Statistical Account] as being a circle of large granite stones but J. Cannon & Mrs. Wightman says that it was only a Sheep pen or fold. nothing of it now remains, but a few small Stones to mark its site. |
