033 | An ancient square stone building, occupied as part of Drumcoltran farm house. It is two stories in height and recently undergone some repairs in the roof and additions to the north end of it The following notice is taken of it in the Stat. Acct. [Statistical Account] of Kirkcudbrightshire page 220 "There is also a square tower at Drum-coltran, which had also been a place of Strength. About 30 years ago a match-lock was dug up in the neighbourhood of the tower." In Sinclairs Stat. Acct. Vol. 7 page 193 [Statistical Account Volume 7 page 193] it is said "The Tower of Drumcultran is not so very ancient as to deserve any particular description." |
