Running in a S.E.[South East] direction through of which the parish of Troqueer | This name applies to a small river or large stream the source is from the union of several small streams between the parishes of Lochrutton and Kirkpatrick Irongray the principal of these streams rises in Larglanglie in the parish of Urr and is first called Cronie Burn and after a short course it changes its name and is called Little Larg Burn and changes again and is called Bettyknowes Burn. it then unites with a small stream named Glenhead Burn thence the united streams is called Bogrie Lane and after a considerable distance it receives the waters of Lochfoot Burn(the latter having its source in Lochrutton Loch) and thence it is called "Cargen Water" untill it passes New Cargen Bridge. Thence it is called Cargen Pow untill its termination and influx with the Nith |
