[Parish] A considerable river which chiefly formed by the confluence or meeting of three streams [or burns] near Minnihive viz. Dalwhat Water Castle Fairn Water & Craigdarroch Water in its course it receives many other tributary streams the [principal] of which is a large burn usually [called] Old Water of Cluden. It continues [its] course in an easterly direction passing by Dunscore a little below which it [is] usually called Cluden River which name it is generally known from its Union [with] the Auld Water and confluence with the River Nith near Lincluden College. |
