[Notes] -- Upon the farm of Terreglestown about a mile to the east
of the church there was at one time a village of considerable
extent. Its population is said to have amounted to about
380. The pavement of the street is still seen and extends
a considerable length -- Stat. Acct [Statistical Account] of Kirkcudbright 1845- Page 233

In 1510 Andrew Lord Herries of Terregles obtained a New charter
of his estates and this charter erected the village of Terregle's
into a Burgh of Barony to be called Herries. -- Regist. Mag. Sig. [Registrum Magni Sigilli] 23.84

The village still continues however to be called by its ancient name -- Chalmer's Caledonia Vol [Volume] III Page 336
