| LINCLUDEN ABBEY | [Continued from page 13] preserved by the attention of the present proprietor. The building called the Provosts Tower is still conspicuous which was part of the Provost's House, part of the Chancel & Some of the South wall of the Church still remain Standing. In the Chancel was the elegant tomb of Margaret, daughter of Robert III. wife of Archibald Earl of Douglas first Duke of Teronan and son of Archibald the Grim. The ornamental front of this tomb is long destroyed, In a recess in the wall over the tomb is the following inscription, "A L'aide de dieu" and at some distance beneath. " Hic Iacet D-na Margareta regis Scotiae fili quondam Comitissa de Douglas Dna Gallovidiae et vallis Annandiae" - In Several parts of the building or ruin there are sculptored figures (but now much defaced) representing the arms of the Douglass family and other noblemen. The remains of what would seem to be a flower garden, a bowling green, etc are still visible near the building, there is also a large artificial mount which has a plantation of tolerable large trees on it, This mount very much resembles the ancient British Moats |
