Fort--Circle--in a field adjoining to the West end of this house on an eminence is a circle which Mr McDowall calls a fort it is about 70 links in Diameter and is fortified with a parapet 7 feet on the outside and 4 on the middle in height. Section thus [Sketch here]--Rerrick--James McDowall

Balmaclin--Hill--A considerable Hill on the farm of Bar-end from which it derives its name it is all arable and the property of Robert Cultar Ferguson Esqr on it is a Trig. [Trigonometrical] Station called by the Trig. [Trigonometrical] party "Flatt Hill". Miss Taite who is a very old woman says this hill was formerly called Balmaclin but I could not any other person who knows it by that name. [initialled by] A.D.
