The houses which are chiefly two stories high have been built with stones taken from the Abbey, the population is about 160 consisting of agricultural labourers, mechanics and shopKeepers, two schools (the Parish and Free church) two Inns and a branch Post Office which communicates with Kirkcudbright daily |
