List of Names collected by 2nd Corpl. [Corporal] William Rogers R. S. [Royal Sappers] and Miners
[Column Headings]
Trace--Received Names--Object--Description--Parish of Rerwick--Authority for spelling Name--Address
8—Fort
Fort--(a fort)--A fort on the summit of Doon Hill and farm of Belig. It is nearly circular and surrounded by a fosse and ramparts which is now nearly leveled with the plough, the interior of the fosse and the fort being ploughed and only the ramparts left uncultivated. I can get no account of the origin or promoters of this object, but it is generally called a Fort and as the hill is called Doon Hill probably it was a fort and gave rise to the name of the hill.--Rerrick--John Muir Esq
Mr. Rigg--Factor to the Earl of Selkirk
High Banks.
