050 | A large and substantially built plain building of the Tudor style of Architecture with piazza entrance to schools, attached is an extensive play ground This Institution contains 3 endowed schools vi the Grammar, the Commercial and the English, all under the patronage of the magistrates and Town Council of Kirkcudbright There are about 130 pupils at present attending the fees varying from 2/6d to 7/6 per Quarter. In the Grammar school are taught Latin, Greek, French and Geography etc the Teacher has an annual salary of sixty guineas exclusive of Fees. In the Commercial department are taught Mathematics, Navigation, Geography, Bookkeeping, Arithmetic, Writing etc. the teacher receives exclusive of Fees and annual salary of £50. In the English department are taught History, Geography Composition and the principles of the English Language, the teacher receives an annual salary of £50 exclusive of Fees - Above the piazza is a large room occupied by a public subscription library. |
