050 | A castle in ruins, situate at the North end of the Town and Close by the old Parish Church. It stands on the site of a convent it is a castellated Gothic building, and over the principle entrance is the Arms of the Macellan family of Bombie. It was built in the year 1582 and is said that the stones of Bombie Castle and of Castledykes were brought from both places for the erection of it. And is now roofless but retained its roof until 1752 but the walls remain almost entire and is now the property of the Duke of Selkirk |
