A small wood near the Town of Kirkcudbright which it is said derives its name from a Man whose Christian name was Thomas he was proprietor of a narrow Stripe of Land on each side belonging to the Earl of Selkirk he wished to purchase the Small portion and offered considerable over the Value for it the proprietor resolved not to Sell. His Lordship then planted his own land Thickly with Trees close up to the Garden the Trees in time grew up and so completely Shaded the garden as to tender it useless and by this means became possesed of it |
