050 | [Situation] About 1/2 mile WNW. [West North West] of the town of Kirkcudbright. The ruins of an old church Surrounded by a Stone built wall in good repair, which encloses a grave yard still used by some of the more ancient families of its locality, the Church seems to have been but Small as the remains of the walls are about 66 feet in length and about 30 in breadth Kirkchrist originally was a Parish of itself, but some time in the 17th century was united with the Parish of Twynholm. The Walls of the church are all level with the ground with exception of a wing on its northern end, which is mostly entire and grown over with Ivy, See Statistical acct. [Account] of County |
